I wonder. Do we expect too much from our grown kids? Have phones put us in such constant touch that we are addicted to each other? Or, rather, are we parents addicted to accessing them all the time? Did our parents expect us to spend the same amount of time with them as we hope to with ours? I doubt it. I blame the phones and ability to see where they are, as they can see where we are. But, honestly. I love being able to say a silent ‘good night’ to my kids when I see them in their locations at the end of the day. Modern love.
We are in Greece visiting a daughter who is teaching here. It’s gorgeous this time of year. I came to Thessaloniki in the Summer of 2021. I really dug into the local culture (see what I did there..Greece, archeology, “dug”). Here is the post I did in case you ever come to Greece. So we are here visiting a daughter and doing what parents do. Observe. Try not to scare them off. Bask in their glow. Zip-the-lip.
Remember when your parents would visit you in your early twenties and offer to take you and your friends out to dinner? It was definitely the best meal any of us had since the last time someone’s parents had come to town. So, yes please and thank you very much! Steak! Red wine! Oysters! We were fed well and drank a lot. Then we went out. We also wrote a thank you note to the host parents. I’ll bet there are some ancient thank yous from evenings like that in my parents’ desks.
I remember my parents coming for weekends to visit which meant two dinners. One would be for meeting the friend group so they didn’t have to worry I was running with a bunch of derelicts. And one was for just me and them. I remember both fondly.
My parents are fun and my friends enjoyed them. They could seek mini guidance on their love life, jobs etc., from an adult that wasn’t invested in them like their own ( neurotic) parents. The same was true last night when we took our daughter’s friends out to dinner. It was lovely to be on the other side of the table!
That’s all from this travelling parent!

Dr Heather Bartos! Menopause Specialist!
It was in the corporate medical world, amidst its sterile and impersonal approach, that I found my mission: to advocate for a healthcare system that genuinely supports women’s total health needs—body, mind, and spirit.
I didn’t just want to give my patients pills and prescriptions, I wanted to help them dig deep into the way they saw themselves, their health, and their bodies, shift their mindset, and start to define what “healthy” looked like for them. That’s why I created Be. Women’s Health & Wellness. As a Reiki Master, energy healer, AND physician (the rarest of triple threats), I envisioned a sanctuary where women can find holistic support and empowerment.
