I love those old cook books and their sage advice . My own mother was a terrible cook , white lumps in the gravy , gross “ Swiss steak “ . Anything grilled was a charred lump of who knew what . Anything in a can , remember those disgusting peas , or a box made its way to our table She embraced TV dinners with great enthusiasm , at last convinced there was a God . We really looked forward to that blueberry buckle . Fortunately , we did take a lot of vitamins and had no food allergies.

I have that same Betty Crocker cookbook! My mother was a home ec major and it was one of her textbooks. It’s chock full of her college girl notes and reminds me of the warm loving home I grew up in.

Thank you for your entertaining and relatable posts, always a fun read. Happy Thanksgiving!

I love that! And I wish they would bring back home ec for boys and girls. so many lost home arts and frankly cluelessness due to throw away clothing and instant stuff...like, how to iron something. Let's start a bring back home ec movement! thanks for sharing your thoughts...

Love this Kim! Craig Claiborne’s cookbook is essential too. My mother and I love cooking Thanksgiving together. We use all of my grandmother’s recipes with a few new ones. Source as much as we can from the farmers market, Turkey always from savenor’s. Happy Happy Thanksgiving!!!
