The good news is that they’ve really refined the risk levels since the 1990’s freak out. Everyone has different risk tolerance, combined with a unique family medical history, etc. That said, if you start HRT within 5 years of menopause, the risks are lower than if you start later.

It really depends on how disruptive your symptoms are. It’s one thing to break out in a sweat occasionally, another if your sleep is fractured, which contributes to other health risks. So, like anything, you have to weigh the risks and benefits. Which are available for reconsideration at any point. You’re not making a lifetime commitment.
