The good news is that they’ve really refined the risk levels since the 1990’s freak out. Everyone has different risk tolerance, combined with a unique family medical history, etc. That said, if you start HRT within 5 years of menopause, the risks are lower than if you start later.
It really depends on how disruptive your symptoms are. It’s one thing to break out in a sweat occasionally, another if your sleep is fractured, which contributes to other health risks. So, like anything, you have to weigh the risks and benefits. Which are available for reconsideration at any point. You’re not making a lifetime commitment.
On fire! It got so bad for awhile that I wouldn't blow out my hair, since I'd sweat and wreck it (not such a big deal in the scheme of things, but another way my body feels foreign to me now). Even using HRT, getting frazzled triggers me. But at least I can use the hormones, which help blunt the worst of it. It took my body forever to finally, officially be official (age 56-ish), so it was a long wait.
I don't mind sweating when it's hot or when I'm working out or gardening, etc. but damn, I'd really love to feel cold again. To need that bulky sweater.
I used an app called My Luna for awhile to track flashes (#, duration, severity), I guess to confirm it was as bad as I thought. Also, data geek. I have 20+ years of menstrual data, too. 🙀
That is incredibly helpful, Jennifer. Luna sounds interesting and I have heard so many things about hrt. The word ‘dangerous’ comes to mind but my info is stemming from my mothers generation. Any worries or is it so much less potent now?

Serious stuff, to be sure. Good to get lots of advice! Thank you!!
It’s great that we’re finally all talking about it.
Well, at least you and I are 😆
Lady Dynamite!
(It’s a great Bamford show to add to the unending list of smart shows, but maybe applies to all this week’s topics….🤡🥵👸🏻?)
