I love this refreshing take on Christmas instead of the ones complaining how it's a drag (many of which I probably wroteπ€£). I do not share your love of the holidays Kim yet your words warmed me up and reminded me to focus on the fun! Thanks. Happy holidays, I hope you're feeling better.
Hi, Donna! I think I am a child at heart and so is my husband...a child who likes the holidays and all the weird displays that comes with it...I love toys and colors so it makes sense. I like to use my hands so projects are fun to me...and my kids really love this time of year I think because we make it a thing...but I I know not everyone feels that way, at all....For starters, my family lost my aunt in a car accident the day after Christmas when she was 24, and my mom's mom passed away from cancer at 56 at Christmas...that was so so long ago.
My delayed response is due to all the festivities!
For me it's a combo that half of my family isn't into it. My husband really isn't into it so, as well as doing every little thing, I am also juggling the emotions of everyone trying to make sure their needs are met. I know, right?! WTF? I'm working on that!
The other thing is the frantic busyness of it, coupled with our work life at the end of the year makes for a tricky combo.
I am devising a plan for the future...I just don't know what it is yet!
My husband is extremely into itβ¦so when I suggest maybe we donβt get so many gifts for the girls it just doesnβt workβ¦some are asked for giftsβ¦we ask for a list from them with a wide array of possibilitiesβ¦itβs a funny thing to read usually, but it also has things they actually need. A 10β frying pan, nice cotton undies, help to pay for a flight, new sheets and towels. Some are fun like vintage Pucci clothingβ¦Etsy etc is great for that.
Unfortunately. the twins bday is December 18th so they get a little hosed. Even a few months later is better, like for my youngest.
Alasβ¦we enjoy it a lot though I do get crazy at different timesβ¦
Kim, thank you for this gorgeous shoutoutβweβre so grateful to you, and to the whole Boston/Cambridge community, for being such a warm, generous place to begin our little midlife-women's press. Christmas is one of my great loves (lights, music, tartan, ordered-not-cooked feasts), and even in needing a gentler set of festivities this year... the gratitude is BIG. β¨π
Oh, I do love a good Tartan...despite there being no Scottish blood in me. Thank you for being so supportive of me for years for no reason other than you are a kind person! Merry Christmas, Alisa!

What makes the Holidays unlovable for you, Donna?
