Thank you, Ororo, for this info. You and your sister are role models for all kids. My sister was the one caring for her MIL with Alzheimers. Her MIL's own sons and their wives did nothing to help. Sending hugs.

Thanks. Greatly appreciated. And thanks for sharing Kim's post about needing interviewees.

That seems to be a thing. A different kind of “sandwich” not with kids and parents but parents and in laws..more a French press than a sandwich

Great article Kim and Ororo! Deciding to "age in place" or move to a community is a major decision for any family and one that I've been a part of for many of my clients. There's no perfect answer, but building the right team is the best place to start.

Kim! Thank you so much for the shoutout! And thank you to you AND Ororo for sharing her family's story. I feel like our family is in much of the same place with my father, who has been dealing with ongoing complications related to CVD. If he had gone into a nursing home after this last round of surgery, it would have completely hastened his decline toward the end. Instead, he is up and walking again, working in his garden, and his mood is so upbeat. Yes, it's meant a temporary sacrifice on the part of different family members, but I have used the in-between times here to finish a novel and my brother has used them to record an album. The most important thing is that our dad is having family dinners again and it seems like he's been given a few more years to enjoy his life with his girlfriend. -xo

Alisa this is a wonderful story. It reminds me that all of the interviews I have for parent elder care are pretty harrowing. But there is another side to it, isn’t there? I’d love to hear more people’s care stories like yours to balance the positive and difficult. Thank you for chiming in Alisa. Xo
