Hello, Ladies! I guess because I write something that is focussed on women “of a certain age” I am bound to get a lot of information about menopause in my inbox. A Lot! That doesn’t mean I feel well informed.
The Internet ushered in the Age of Sharing (and over sharing). Not much is embarrassing these days, including menopause. And, menopause has burst out of the shadows! There was even an ad during the Super Bowl for the hot flash symptom drug Veozah. I mean…wow! It’s like the ad bros woke up and realized that 50 percent of the population is female and by 2025 it is estimated that there will be 1.1 billion postmenopausal women worldwide. Women make up more than half of the U.S. population, and control or influence 85% of consumer spending Boom!1 Respect the ladies!
I digress.
As far as pharmaceuticals go, personally, I am looking into “the patch” : what is it and how people have done with it. I’d like to collect your reflections on why you are on the patch, not on it at all, or went on it and then off of it. I hear many differing opinions about the risks of using HRT (hormone replacement therapy). The Forbes article I site above has this tidbit in it: “For decades, hormone replacement therapy has been the treatment recommended by experts for severe symptoms from menopause. Though it’s long been a mainstay of care, menopausal hormone therapy carries with it serious risks including cancer.” I know this would really irritate a lot of pro HRT people.
If you would please email me with your thoughts (or comment below!) on those questions I would truly appreciate it and so will your fellow readers. I plan to do a series of posts on hormone therapy and menopause. Let me know about people you think I should interview, too! Email any ideas and comments to: womenssurvivalguide@gmail.com ok click the button above!

This has been one of my favorite interviews. I know it looks like it is only for Premium readers, but most of it is for everyone!
How does she look so good? Ask Cindy from Beyond50Skin!
Beyond50Skin and Cindy Sterling: Every picture tells a story, don’t it (Rod Stewart)? The pictures of Cindy Sterling above tell the story of a woman who looked in the mirror at age 50, did not like what she saw and took action. “How had it come to this?” she thought. The age spots, the smoker’s lines (despite never smoking), the hollowing under her eyes. Not to mention the “angry 11s” between her eyebrows and the labial folds on the side of her mouth. The effects of aging and menopause were undeniable. Little did she know then that she was at the beginning of a seven-year self-care journey and a new chapter as a “mature beauty content creator” and business owner (
Around Substack:
Ladyparts noted this: Ms. Magazine just published this amazing counterpoint to the outrageous Lancet series on the bogus “over-medicalization of menopause,” signed by over 250 medical professionals who treat women in menopause. This is an important read, well-worth your time.

A close friend started on the patch to combat menopause symptoms & within the year she was diagnosed with estrogen caused breast cancer. I’m sure it has helped many women without consequences but that was my sole association. I had night sweats, hot flashes & mood swings during menopause but used a supplement called PreMenses that helped. I also stopped drinking really hot drinks, like coffee & tea ( I let them cool or added cold milk) & gave up spicy foods. All of which helped a lot. As did little ice packs on the back of my neck, if at home.
