What do you want out of the coming year?

I don’t mean you have to write down lots of resolutions and then feel guilty about something you never do. Just sit down in a comfy chair, turn your phone to silent and think.

It’s harder than it seems, isn’t it?

Did pre-cell phone generations my age feel as jumpy as I do most of the time? That feeling of ‘what surface-to-air missile is incoming now?’ In olden days, pre 2005/smartphone, we knew where the news flashes were coming from and how to avoid them: newspaper, radio, TV, mail…..people. Now, it could be any time at all, 24 hours a day unless you stifle your phone and computer.

Ever notice how your kid’s phones constantly buzz, but at weird unpredictable intervals. Bzzt. Bzzt Bzzt……….bzzt! Non stop. It’s Snapchat, I think. BZZZZT. The thousands of kids our kids “know” out there are constantly sending little pics or emojis or words. And, because these treasures are not to be missed, they are individually announced. Bzzt! How in the hell do they complete a thought? Are young brains really that much better than ours? Don’t answer that. My hope is that when they get a full bzt time job they will realize no one can focus with constant BZZT disruption and they will turn the Bzzt! off. Hope springs eternal. Bzt.

I digress. Back to you and what you want. Or, what you don’t want.

I’ll start.

(and don’t miss my interactive list of my favorite things plus photo gallery so far in 2025!)
