Good morning from WSG world headquarters, my bed. The Italian Tennis Open is playing on my tiny white TV, and the newspaper is spread all over the bed. I did the small cross-word puzzle in the Times. That’s all my attention span will allow. Gidget the Wonder Dog is right next to me and Seven the cat is also nearby. I have a lukewarm cup of coffee on my side table with books piled everywhere. Fyi, I am reading Jeanne Blasberg’s new (and third) book, A Daughter Of A Promise and have begun interviewing her for you! (She did not publish her first novel until she was 52, btw. A true WSG Maven!).
Also on my bedside table there is a tiny vase with Lillie of the Valley stems that I have been drawing right next to the Amaryllis bulb that has been my art model of late. There are stacks of “To Do” lists held down by a brass snail on top of a journal and next to a pitcher full of pens and pencils. The floor is strewn with paid bills and yesterday’s Times. I am messy though I present as neat, I think. I will tidy up when I get out of bed because I cannot think clearly when things are a mess. Then again, I can’t think clearly much of the time! That’s what all those lists are for…if I’d just read them!
Why think about neatness and messiness this day before Mother’s Day, a sacred Hallmark moment? Because for some reason when I write about kids, I always write about mess. And, because, today one of my daughters will be winging her way home, my neat home, and with her will come a lot of stuff. And the stuff will need to be washed, and the wash will linger in the kitchen (where my washer/dryer is located), and that will be the beginning of the end of my orderly house for the Summer.
Because after two graduations next week (yes, there is an overlap), two more daughters will return and with them, scads of stuff. Scads! Their rooms are mysteriously full of stuff at this moment. Where will the new stuff go? In piles. Or, in those bright blue Amazon bags that I have written about before.
I have already been hearing from moms with college kids returning home and the effect that has on their sanity and their house. It’s a struggle because we are overjoyed to see our widdle wuvs. But we also have gotten used to having an empty fridge and only running the dishwasher once a week. However, the fact remains that my heart skips a beat when I think of the girls coming home. I am excited.
🌼 A Happy Mother’s Day, indeed! Hope your’s is as you want it to be! Drop us a comment and tell what you feel about Mother’s Day! Don’t forget to order some spiffy footwear, too!
